Grease stains: Our tips for getting rid of them!
A small kitchen incident and hey presto, a grease stain comes to ruin your day! Whether it's on your clothes, shoes or furniture, don't panic, there are simple and natural solutions to get rid of it. No need for harsh chemicals, follow our tips to get your fabrics spotless and say goodbye to grease stains.
The right reflexes for treating grease stains!
When dealing with a grease stain, it is crucial to know the right steps to take:
- No hot water : Grease and water don't mix, and using hot water could set the stain. Use dry methods.
- Act fast : Speed is key. The faster you treat the stain, the better chance you have of removing it completely.
- Precaution before washing : Do not put the fabric directly in the washing machine or under hot water. Pretreat the stain first for best results.
How to remove grease stains?
Grease stains can be found on a variety of surfaces, each requiring a specific method to be cleaned effectively. Here's how to do it for different materials:
• On your clothes
To remove a grease stain from clothing, use our stain remover stick based on Terre de Sommières. Rub the stain with the stick, leave to act, then rub again before rinsing with cold water. Then wash the garment as usual.
• On your fabrics:
For your fabrics, apply stain remover soap. Alternatively, sprinkle baking soda or sodium percarbonate directly on the stain. Leave to act, then rub gently before rinsing.
• On your shoes:
For leather shoes, apply Terre de Sommières or soft black soap to penetrate the leather. Leave for one to two hours, then polish your shoes to restore their shine. For fabric or suede shoes, use stain-removing soap.
• On your sofas:
For sofas, rub the stain with Marseille soap or stain remover soap and a damp sponge. Leave to act for a few minutes before rinsing with a clean, damp sponge.
• On wood:
To remove a grease stain from wood, place a small amount of soft black soap on a slightly damp cloth and rub gently. This will restore suppleness and shine to the wood. Before applying the black soap, test it on a hidden part of the furniture or your coffee table.
Our products to combat your grease stains:
We offer you two powerful solutions: our stain remover soap based on Terre de Sommières and the soda crystals present in sodium percarbonate. The Terre de Sommières, in our stick, absorbs up to 80% of its weight in grease, while the soda crystals degrease and remove stains in depth, ideal for light fabrics.
How to get rid of stubborn grease stains?
Stubborn grease stains may seem impossible to remove, but don't despair. With the right techniques, you can tackle these stubborn stains without resorting to harmful or dangerous products like ammonia, but rather natural products like white vinegar and baking soda!
• The hair dryer
For stubborn grease stains, use a hair dryer to heat the stain. Be careful not to get the appliance too close to avoid damaging it. Once the stain is heated, sprinkle it with fuller's earth . The heat will melt the grease, which will then be absorbed by the powder.
• The iron
For clothes that can withstand high temperatures, such as cotton, place two sheets of paper towels on either side of the stain. Use a hot iron to press the fabric. The heat will liquefy the grease, which will be absorbed by the paper. This method is effective, but should be used with caution to avoid damaging delicate fabrics.
