You have the idea of starting your zero waste approach to dishwashing... But which accessories should you choose?
What is Zero Waste?
Zero waste is an approach to reduce our impact on the environment, and which aims to reduce the amount of waste emitted and the waste of resources. It is opposed to the production of single-use objects and to certain waste treatment methods (landfill, incineration, etc.).Zero waste is a progressive and positive approach, which can be followed individually and collectively.
In this article, we present you 4 ecological products to wash your dishes in a more ecological way.
1. Solid Dishwashing Soap, forget your liquid soap!
There's nothing better than a solid product to replace plastic bottles. Discover the solid dishwashing soap !
It's small but effective and has disinfecting, cleaning, degreasing and cleansing properties. The solid formula uses less water and contains more active ingredients.
It is packaged in a cardboard box. This also reduces plastic waste. And it doesn't stop there... This product is also more economical, as it lasts 2 to 3 months. The process is simple. Just scrub your dish brush or sponge with the soap.
2. The natural dish brush, the ideal accessory for solid dishwashing soap
It has happened to all of us: the bottom of a pan or a dish that caught fire, dirty pans or barbecue grills... But more seriously, who has ever forgotten a pan, pot or dish on the stove?
Scrubbing off the grease is a must in these situations. The wooden dish brush is the perfect accessory to remove stubborn grease. It is made from plant fibers like agave to effectively remove dirt without scratching the dishes.
Brushes that have removable heads are perfect for cleaning. After you damage the bristles, you can easily replace the head
3. The natural biodegradable dish sponge, no more waste!
Finding a good alternative to synthetic sponges is not an easy task. Not everyone likes washable sponges or dishwashing brushes.
To complete the essential accessories of an eco-responsible home, we propose the natural biodegradable sponge. This dish sponge is made of 100% natural products: wood pulp cellulose for the sponge part and a mixture of hard walnut shells and fruit pits for the scrubbing part.
This natural sponge will also reduce your household waste since it is entirely biodegradable.
4. Biodegradable reusable dishcloth, the zero waste alternative to paper towels
With our "environmentally conscious" cap on, traditional paper towels are not the best solution. There's cardboard, single-use paper towels, all wrapped in plastic. All this to use one sheet, one time... It makes you think. You can compost the sheet only if the paper towel has the "Eco label" certification and if it is not soiled (no greasy or chemical element on it).
The solution to this problem is the biodegradable reusable dishcloth. This product has been popular in Sweden for over 60 years and can absorb 15 times its own weight in liquid (up to 3/4 cup). These dishcloths replace the traditional paper towel, reduce plastic packaging and waste. They will clean all kitchen and bathroom surfaces without leaving streaks. Ideal for granite, stainless steel, laminate and glass pans.
Its composition of cellulose (wood pulp) and cotton is 100% biodegradable and can be disposed of in the compost. This dishcloth is naturally anti-bacterial due to its quick drying ability, which means no "dishcloth" smell!

How To Wash Dishes The Eco-Friendly Way ?
It's easy. You need :
- a dish brush 🧹
- a solid dishwashing soap 🧼
Follow these 4 steps:
- Rinse dishes with hot water and the brush. Dirt comes off more easily with hot water. To reduce your consumption of hot water, we advise you to wash your dishes quickly after eating to prevent dirt and residues from drying, making the task more difficult.
- Apply soap to the brush by scrubbing it. Very little soap is needed, less is better than too much!
- Scrub dishes and lather up
- Finish by rinsing with clean water
In addition to reducing your plastic waste you will also save money. A solid dishwashing soap is more economical than dishwashing liquid and can last several months!
