Opting for homemade laundry detergent means saying goodbye to plastic packaging and considerably reducing waste. In addition, the cost is unbeatable: with around €20 you can make 15 liters of homemade detergent, while a 6 liter can in the supermarket already costs €20.
How to do your laundry at home?
Gather the necessary ingredients
- 1 liter of water
- 50 g of Marseille soap shavings
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 10 to 15 drops of essential oil to perfume (optional)
The 3 stages of preparation:
- Mix the soap shavings with hot water : Heat the water and add the Marseille soap shavings. Mix until the shavings are completely dissolved.
- Add the baking soda : Once the chips are dissolved, add a tablespoon of baking soda. This will strengthen the stain removing action of your laundry.
- Scent your laundry (optional) : For those who want scented laundry, add around ten drops of essential oils while the mixture is hot so that the scent is evenly distributed.
Let your laundry cool and store
Let the mixture cool in small containers for about a day.
Before each use, remember to shake the container well, as the natural product tends to solidify quickly.
Even if they are natural products, be sure to keep the detergent out of the reach of children.
